Overview of Diobox Kiosk Mode

Kiosk Mode provides a self-service guest experience on the Diobox iPad and iPhone apps. Guests can check in by scanning their own QR code or register on-site using walk-in registration.

Walk-in registration works with existing Diobox Registration Forms, so organizers can customize the fields, collect event-specific information, and create different registration flows for the kiosk experience.

This setup is commonly used at event entrances, allowing organizers to reduce staffing while maintaining a fast and consistent check-in and registration flow.

QR Code Scanning

Guests arrive at the kiosk and see a branded home screen with a custom background, event logo, color theme, and action buttons.

When guests tap Scan QR Code, the camera opens with a live view so they can scan a QR code from a phone, printed confirmation, or badge.

After a successful scan, the guest’s name and optional photo appear on screen. A confirmation sound can play if the device is not muted. If badge printing is enabled, printing begins automatically without additional input.

If the QR code is invalid or has already been scanned, the screen displays an appropriate message. An error sound may also play depending on device settings.

The entire interaction is designed to be quick and self-guided, allowing guests to check themselves in without assistance.

Supported QR Codes

Kiosk Mode works with every type of QR code generated from the Diobox platform, including:

  • QR codes from confirmation emails and confirmation pages

  • QR codes printed on badges, including those with vCard data

  • Temporal QR codes

Walk-In Registration

Guests can also register themselves directly on the kiosk device by tapping Register.

The registration flow uses existing Diobox Registration Forms and supports custom fields, event-specific questions, and additional data collection directly within the Kiosk experience. This allows organizers to create highly customized walk-in registration flows for guests who do not already have a QR code.

When the guest submits the form, Diobox creates the guest record and checks them in in a single step. If badge printing is enabled, a badge can print automatically after the registration is completed.

Customize Kiosk Mode Branding

Kiosk Mode can be fully styled to match your event’s identity. You can control elements such as background images, logos, colors, and on-screen messaging to create a consistent and professional experience for guests.

Configure and Launch Kiosk Mode

Kiosk Mode is configured separately for each event and launched directly from the Diobox iOS app. Organizers can configure QR code scanning behavior and actions that occur after a successful scan or registration submission. This includes features such as event session tracking and automatic badge printing.

Secure Kiosk Mode and Lock the Device

To ensure a reliable self-service experience, the device can be restricted to remain within the Diobox app. Kiosk Mode includes a PIN that prevents users from exiting the check-in screen or accessing other parts of the app, such as guest data and event settings.

To fully lock the device into the Diobox app, use Guided Access, a built-in iOS feature designed for kiosk-style setups. When enabled, it prevents users from leaving the app or interacting with other areas of the device.

Kiosk Mode helps reduce staffing requirements while providing a faster self-service check-in and registration experience for guests.
