The original Diobox iOS app included a built-in badge design tool that allowed users to create and edit badges directly on their device. While it offered several templates, QR code options, and basic personalization, the feature had many limitations. It supported only fixed layouts, limited customization, and a single badge size.
The new Diobox Badge Builder on the web app replaces this older system with a modern canvas that supports badges of any size, full design control, images, shapes, custom layouts, and more. All new events use the new Badge Builder by default.
The Legacy iOS Badge Builder will be fully discontinued on December 31, 2025. After that date, legacy badges will no longer be editable or available for printing. You can continue to use legacy badges until then, or you can switch your existing events to the new builder at any time.
Switching Between the Legacy and New Builders
If your event currently uses the legacy system, you will see a Legacy Badge Builder Active banner in the upper-right corner of the screen in the web app.
To switch to the new badge builder:
Click the Legacy Badge Builder Active banner.
A settings panel will appear that allows you to change your event’s badge builder mode.
Select the option to switch to the new Diobox Badge Builder.
Important notes:
This setting is only available in the web app.
After switching modes, reload the event on the iOS app so the updated badge system is applied.
You can design badges in the new web builder even if your event is still set to legacy mode, but only one mode can control printing at a time.
Badges created using the legacy builder cannot be edited in the new builder, but you can easily recreate them using the new templates.
Using the Legacy iOS Badge Builder
(Available only for events created before the new web Badge Builder)
Legacy badge templates are designed and edited entirely in the iOS app.
To access the Legacy Builder:
Open the Diobox iOS app.
Go to Tools → Badge Printing.
You will see a list of all your legacy templates.
Select a template to edit, or tap + Add Template to create a new one.
Legacy templates are synced at the account level, meaning you can reuse the same template across multiple events.
Adding a New Template
At the bottom of the template list, tap + Add Template.
You can select from several preset layouts. Each layout has a fixed orientation and size that cannot be changed.
Editing an Existing Template
Tap the edit icon next to any template to open the layout editor.
Customizing Template Content
Legacy templates allow up to five lines or areas of content. Each line can be configured independently.
Select a line to choose what it displays. Supported fields include:
Event Name
Full Name
First Name
Last Name
Company
Job Title
Email
Table / Row
Table / Row & Seat
Ticket Type
Guest List
Static Text (remains the same on all badges)
You can also toggle any content line On or Off if you do not want it displayed.
When finished, tap the back button to return to the template view.
Adding a Logo
Some legacy templates include an optional Logo field.
To configure the logo:
Tap Logo
Choose Change Image or Add Image
You can select an image from:
Your device’s Photo Library
iCloud Drive
Dropbox
OneDrive
Any other file locations available on your device
Recommended image guidelines:
Black and white artwork for best thermal print clarity
JPEG or PNG format
At least 720 pixels on the larger dimension
PNG is preferred for transparent backgrounds
Toggle Show Image off if you do not want to display the logo.
QR Code Configuration
Select a legacy badge template that supports a QR code.
Scroll to the bottom of the template settings to configure it:
Guest Check-In
QR code can be scanned only by the Diobox app to check in guests.
vCard Exchange & Guest Check-In
QR code can be scanned by:
The Diobox app (for check-in)
Any smartphone camera (for contact exchange)
Scanning the code with a camera adds the guest’s contact details to the phone’s address book. No app download is required.
Duplicating or Deleting Legacy Templates
To duplicate or delete a template:
Tap the edit icon next to the template
Tap the More (…) button in the top-right corner
From here, choose:
Duplicate: Create a copy of the template
Delete: Permanently remove the template
Limitations of the Legacy iOS Builder
Fixed layout, size, and orientation
Maximum of five content lines
Limited font and style options
Limited image handling
Only partial support for QR code configuration
Cannot add shapes, dynamic formatting, or multi-layer designs
Not compatible with multi-badge formats or custom sizes
These limitations are addressed in the new Diobox Badge Builder, which supports full canvas design, unlimited customization, and more advanced workflows.
