Allow Ticket Buyers to Assign Guests Later

Updated today

Deferred Guest Registrations is a feature that allows a ticket buyer to purchase multiple tickets in a single order without entering the details for every guest during checkout.

Instead of completing all guest information immediately, the buyer can finalize the order first and assign guests later. After the purchase is completed, the buyer receives an email with unique links that can be used to complete the remaining guest registrations.

Why Use Deferred Guest Registrations

This feature reduces friction during registration by collecting only the essential information needed to complete the purchase. It is especially useful when the buyer does not yet know who will use the tickets.

Common advantages include:

  • Purchasing tickets before knowing who they will be assigned to

  • Securing tickets and completing payment without entering full guest information

  • Skipping custom questions and additional form fields during the initial checkout

Guest Experience

Deferred Guest Registrations becomes available when more than one ticket or registration is included in a submission. For example:

  • The ticket quantity is greater than one

  • Multiple ticket types or registration forms are included in the order

When this happens, a Register Guests Now toggle appears during checkout.

This reduces friction during checkout and allows the buyer to complete the purchase quickly without filling out multiple guest registrations.

After the order is submitted, the ticket buyer receives an email containing links to complete each remaining guest registration.

Example Order Receipt with Unassigned Guests

When deferred registrations are used, the receipt shows placeholder entries for any guests whose details have not yet been completed.

These entries are labeled as Unassigned Guest, making it clear which registrations still need to be finalized.

Disable Deferred Guest Registrations

This feature is enabled by default for all events.

To disable it:

  1. Go to Forms β†’ Style & Configuration β†’ Portal Setup.

  2. Uncheck Deferred Guest Registrations under Guest Actions.

Find Unassigned Guests

You can easily identify registrations that have not yet been completed.

Guests Section

In the Guests section, unassigned entries appear under the primary registrant and are labeled Unassigned Guest. This makes them easy to spot within the guest list.

To view only these records, open the Guest List dropdown and select the Unassigned Registration segment.

If you need to follow up, you can locate the primary registrant using the Group dropdown and contact them to complete the remaining guest details.

Submissions Section

You can also locate incomplete registrations from the Submissions page.

Open the Filter dropdown and select Unassigned Registrations/Tickets to display only submissions that contain unassigned guests.

This view organizes the records by the original order and provides links to the receipt as well as to each pending guest registration, allowing you to review or complete them directly.
