Change Badge Size

Updated over a week ago

The Diobox Badge Builder lets you create badges in custom sizes so they match your printer setup and event needs. You can adjust badge dimensions directly in the editor and see a live preview of how the badge will be trimmed and printed.

This article explains two common scenarios for changing badge size:

Adjust the Badge Size for Supported On-Site Printing

When printing directly from the Diobox iOS app using a supported printer, badge dimensions must match the paper sizes that the printer model supports.

  1. Open the badge you want to edit.

  2. In the Properties panel on the right, find the Dimensions section and click Edit.

When you change the badge size, the available options depend on your printer.

For printers with auto-trimming support, such as the Brother QL-800 Series, the roll width is fixed at 62 mm. The only adjustable value is the cut length, which determines the badge height.

By changing the cut length, you control the final badge size while keeping the paper width constant. You can enter a specific cut length between 20 mm and 120 mm or use the slider to adjust it visually. The preview updates in real time and shows the trim line so you see how the badge will be cut when printed.

This makes it easy to fine-tune the badge size before printing and helps avoid wasted paper.

Create a Custom Badge Size for Desktop and PDF Printing

If you need a badge size that does not match the supported printer formats, you can define a fully custom size and export badges to PDF. You can then print these files on a standard office printer or send them to a professional print vendor.

To create a custom badge size:

1) Open your badge in the Badge Builder.

2) From Printers & Media, set the Printer Model to Generic Printer (PDF Export).

3) Now, you can enter a custom width and height in the Badge Dimension setting.

Summary

Once Generic Printer (PDF Export) is selected:

  • Enter a custom width and height for your badge in Badge Dimension.

  • Select any color for objects in the Badge Builder because you are not limited by specific printer constraints.

  • The canvas adjusts to the exact dimensions you specify, so you are not restricted by hardware limitations.

This option works well if you are not using a supported Diobox badge printer and want full control over layout, paper type, or printing method.
